Society should not be indignant towards change

Yet it is!!

Not everyone has the privilege to become a change maker, also, not all are brave enough to endure the changes occurring in the global society. Yet the truth is that everyone changes for the better. But we are initially indignant of changes that have already taken place in our perception of reality as we mature.

How many times have we switched between a dark chocolate as a choice or milk chocolate?

We are no longer in the illusion of being the most beautiful or most benevolent or most hard working. And neither are us worse looking, malicious and lazy.

Who are we? A work in progress, always changing.

Over the years we age, gain weight, manage wrinkles, are fed up of drama in our lives and keep to our purpose.

And then, the purpose becomes obsolete with millions of contenders chasing the same outcome, yet all of them are well placed in their unique circumstances. They change themselves often, consequently changing their surroundings. This is the least they can do.

An elder sibling guides the younger so that his experience and behavior does not harm but helps the future generation. Surprisingly, the younger ones have created their world that cannot change just due to the elder one’s experience or persuasion. This is both fortune and misfortune!!

Marcus Aurelius has something to say about this,

“If this is no wrongdoing of mine, nor the result of any wrong done to me, and if the community is not harmed, then why do I let it trouble me? And what is the harm that can be done to the community?”

If it is someone else, it hardly matters, as it does not harm me!!

It affects me, but there are others also. They have been flexible enough and adapted to change so let me let go all guards and live relentlessly by changing often too, and then come back to where I started, fully aware that change number 3 was better for me than the change number 21. But change 18 is still better than the two.

Bending and lowering your standards of self-righteousness actually helps in embracing changes around us.

But the drawback of this philosophy is, we are what we think, and we do not need a lot of rigidity in our character and thinking but then, we need to thrive in a bad situation. If my plan B does not work, I need a plan C. What plan would work is uncertain and unknown by the society. But I do have a plan and I move ahead notwithstanding the fact that they will be indignant of my decisions, yet I decide, I change my desire even for the preference of life or death. The society is intolerant to change since time immemorial. It is human nature to not bear discomfort. Though, the Earth is a dynamic equilibrium, there is a unique identity for all of us, yet all are doing and thinking similarly, the situation that someone handles in India has same morals guiding someone in Europe. Their relaxing laws might be different, due to social culture, but morals are defended everywhere.

We are tolerant of changes, many like me, lots of like you and eventually the society embraces us. For example, there is a change in perspective when you come to know that your quarrelsome colleague is actually in need of separation, because she was dishonored and abused by her husband. There are many such stories and many unconventional solutions.

The only thing that helps the dilemma of change here is to inculcate individualism. Internalize. We know ourselves and therefore, we act accordingly. We pursue meditation, yogic practices, reading books and writing to get over and above our shortcomings and find our space somewhere and selectively allow people to share our path. Those who can change with us, can share our path. Then we can establish a platform for change makers to thrive and flourish.

Marcus Aurelius wrote:

“ There was a time when I met luck at every turn.”

Behind this luck is the individualistic story of confidence, hard work, good impulses, good inclinations of soul, good actions and perseverance. This good is what changes our internal and external system. Many such minor changes can create a positive and growth oriented society. Utopia cannot be achieved but with many delivery boys out there, its very easy to think of doing more of self development work, as food is just a click away and so are the books, medicines, and clothes.

Therefore, convert your misfortunes into a fortune, and live as change tolerators before change makers. Society can accept but remains indignant. Nevertheless, the social construct of any society is rigid enough by default to create a civilization. This is the only purpose of society and its norms.

A lot of meaningful work needs to be done, so why not with innovations and adventure in it? If we succeed, there remains the plan L that wants every being to live and flow.

Ponder over it and let me know your thoughts.
