Empower yourself!!

There are some questions that are logical enough to ask yourself every day to gain more control over your health. These questions will help you to easily opt out of unhealthy habits and lifestyles irrespective of your socio-economic status. It is easier for people who are already addicted to health to ask these questions. So let’s ask!!

  1. Can I order more hot servings, how many days have these ingredients been stored in your kitchen?
  2. Can I make broccoli soup with chicken instead of white sauce pasta?
  3. Is it really necessary for me to use margarine in cooking?
  4. Can I just say no to the trans-fats?
  5. Can I do without colas?
  6. Will you please provide a mask for free to all the workers, its really polluted here.
  7. My office should have a clean toilet, if not, my team shall contribute for a better installation.
  8. I demand peace of mind or else things become unproductive.
  9. Stop with this horn honking, I’ll complain to the police.
  10. This is my time to rejuvenate in the evening after completing my day’s errands. I prefer yoga class than a glass of wine.
  11. I do not want to stand in long queues, is there some other way for the outpatient consultation in your hospital?
  12. I do not want to stand in long queues to approach the deity, I might fall in the hot sun. Is there a provision of tokens and numbers being called to approach the temple?
  13. Why do the buses need rushing, Am I supposed to travel with the risk of falling while boarding?
  14. Is there a better drug doctor, my symptoms haven’t subsided for past 2 weeks, how soon can I meet you at your clinic?
  15. My child is being bullied by every other student. Teachers please look into the matter, how can you be so carefree?

These were my versions, but the list can be prolonged.

Some were my experiences where I did not keep mum and achieved because I could justify my health need.

World Health Day Theme is ‘My Health, My Right’. So let’s become proactive in acquiring health. But make sure that it is a health need and not demand. Because, health demands usually require many resources, fulfilling demands for you or for someone who can afford might deprive other less fortuitus person of his health need. It is better to consult a public health practitioner, to justify your needs and demands.

Question injustice but also keep in mind whether your community’s well-being is intact while seeking multi-dimensional and holistic health for yourself. Either way, its your right. Be physically, mentally, socially and economically wise. Consequently, you bring about health for yourself and your environment. Hope we all get lucky in this respect, from all parts of the world!!
