Developing Concept

Growing burden of obesity is taken as a threat to health not only aesthetically but metabolically. This has resulted in higher intake of prophylactic drugs, unsatiable expenditure on gyms and physiotherapy services. Obesity is also a cause of depression, suicide and substance abuse like smoking. The greatest dread is heart disease. But overmedicalization to manage obesity is not needed. Precision medicine has come up with conditions to use of drugs, sports, diet. With this background this article has discussed another concept of obesity, which must be ruled out before starting cardiovascular prophylactic therapy and common treatment modalities.

Concept:

Obesity is evidenced as an independent risk factor for heart disease and sudden deaths. To modify this risk, physical activity and nutritious diet intake is preferred over other prophylaxis like drug therapy. Aim is to reduce visceral fat which is the basis of initiating the atherosclerotic process. The most sensitive anthropometric indicator for metabolic risk is waist circumference. And it also predicts adverse cardiovascular events.

In the past 20 years, there has been a rise in high refined sugars and fatty diet consumption. These foods are easily available, simple to cook or ready to eat, and do not require munching effort also. This…
